Aural-Environments (A-E) was approached by a property owner who’d just completed a major reconfiguration, combining living room, dining room, kitchen and family room, areas into one large space. Though happy with the overall reconfiguration, there were unintended acoustical consequences: high noise levels while entertaining, and excessive noise spillovers from food preparation and island areas. Additionally the their high end AV system failed to provide adequate sound clarity into the larger space.

The comprehensive case study below details how A-E satisfactorily resolving these issues at minimal cost, employing state of art on-site ambisonic measurements, followed by computer modeling and simulation. Incorporated into this study were virtual listening demonstrations for the owner providing, prior to design acceptance, realistic before-and-after comparisons of the recommended treatments. These binaural headphone listening files are linked below. Following design acceptance, and in close collaboration with the owner the room treatment installation was successfully completed, meeting both acoustical and aesthetic requirements.
