Residential

High ceilings, large window areas, hard floor surfaces and open plans of modern luxury homes and condominiums pose major acoustical challenges. Excessive reverberation times and early reflections force background sounds into the auditory foreground, disturbing what otherwise would be tranquil and relaxed settings. Hosting entertainment events these same room deficiencies are magnified, with guests perhaps unable to carry on relaxed conversations over the auditory clutter. Hearing-impaired guests can find these situations particularly frustrating. And high-end AV systems, which often share such spaces, may fail to reach anywhere near their potential.

Selection and placement of acoustical features to mitigate these issues can be very challenging, as the primary design drivers are aesthetic, and functional space flow. With its world-class Odeon simulation tools, Aural-Environments offers interior designers and architects and their clients the unique ability to experience proposed acoustical designs in highly realistic immersive sound.  Immersive auralization of the acoustic environment directly parallels a project’s 3D visualization, therein offering both greater technical confidence, and owner involvement and satisfaction.

Out internationally recognized Odeon simulation suite has been generally deployed on large-scale projects such as concert halls, auditoria, and meeting spaces. However Aural-Environments has streamlined the residential capture process with rapid-scan LIDAR, thereby focusing resources towards the minimization of acoustical treatment visual impact, and project cost. Typical scenarios investigated are:

  • Entertainment event challenges → speech clarity and ease of conversation,

  • Auxiliary area noise spillover issues →sound level and spectrum,

  • AV system performance →music and speech clarity.

Both numerical and subjective evaluations are incorporated, incorporating binaural audio files for realistic immersive headphone listening.
